Phil Collins talks meeting Oasis at upcoming Rock Hall Of Fame induction after Noel Gallagher called him “the Antichrist”

Phil Collins has opened up about potentially meeting Oasis at the upcoming Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame 2026 ceremony.

Both acts are among this year’s inductees along with Billy IdolIron MaidenJoy Division/New Order, Sade, Luther Vandross and Wu-Tang Clan.

In the past, Noel Gallagher was outspoken about Collins during his younger days as shown in the 2016 documentary Supersonic, when he described him as “the antichrist of music”.

“We’re gonna get rid of Phil Collins and Sting,” said Noel. “We’ve got to get in the charts and stamp them out. I want the severed head of Phil Collins in my fridge by the end of this decade. And if I haven’t, I’ll be a failure.”

Gallagher continued to criticise Collins in interviews over the years, encouraging people to vote Labour in the 1997 general election to stop Collins, then living in Switzerland, from moving back to the UK.

“If the Conservatives get in, Phil Collins is threatening to come back and live here. And let’s face it, none of us want that,” he told The Guardian at the time (via MOJO). Collins subsequently hit back, dismissing Oasis as “rude, horrible… and not as talented as they think” in an interview with the Irish Examiner in 2005.

Now, speaking to MOJO in a new interview, Collins spoke about the forthcoming Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame 2026 ceremony and the possibility of bumping into Oasis.

“The [Hall Of Fame] inductees have all been invited to a lunch before the ceremony. Which will be interesting, as I’m sure to bump into Oasis.” said Collins who apparently learned more about Noel’s “antichrist” comment after he allegedly told a writer that Collins’ performance had scared him when he attended a Genesis gig “completely out of it” in the ’80s.

“Now I’ve thought this through and although Noel didn’t specify what song it was, I reckon it was [Genesis single] ‘Mama’, where I go (recites the lyric) ‘Ha-ha-ha… Oww,’ with the light under my face,” added Collins. “I think ‘Mama’ is why Noel called me the antichrist. But I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt here, and assuming he doesn’t really think I’m the antichrist.”

Noel is yet to respond publicly to Collins’ comments.

This year sees a total of six British acts being inducted, breaking the previous record of five British names entering the Rock Hall in a single year. In 2019, Radiohead, The Cure, Def Leppard, Roxy Music and The Zombies were all honoured.

Phil Collins was previously inducted as a member of Genesis in 2010. This year was the first time he was on the ballot as a solo artist. The two other first-time nominees in 2026 were Luther Vandross and Wu-Tang Clan.

Oasis were nominated for the third consecutive year in 2026, following nods in 2024 and 2025.

Upon being nominated this year, frontman Liam Gallagher wrote: “I wanna thank all the people who voted for us it’s a real honour ever since I was a little kid and singing in the shower I’d dream about 1 day being in the RnR hall of fame it’s true what they say anything is possible if you have a dream LG x.”

He had previously reacted to their 2024 nomination by writing: “Fuck the Rock n Roll hall of fame its full of BUMBACLARTS”. He also discouraged fans from voting for them, calling it “a load of bollox”.

Gallagher reiterated his sentiments last year, saying the Rock Hall was “for WANKERS”. However, he replied to one fan asking what would happen if they got in by saying: “Obv go and say it’s the best thing EVER.”
